It started with a laptop

My mother bought me a laptop when I was ten. I taught myself to code on it and built my own online game. It was not good, but it worked, and that was the hook.

What followed was years of the same thing in different shapes. Code camps. Evenings spent building whatever I could think of. Anything IT-related I could get my hands on. Websites were never homework for me; they were what I did when nobody was making me do anything.

Then it became a career

In 2018 I started my first IT role as a network engineer. For the past seven years I have worked as a managed file transfer developer and administrator, which is still my day job, and I have since completed a degree in Computer Science.

That background matters more than it sounds like it should. Managed file transfer is the unglamorous plumbing that moves sensitive data between systems for a living, where a failure is not a cosmetic problem. Between that and the networking years I learned the layer underneath the design: DNS, hosting, uptime, security, why a page is slow and what actually breaks. Most people who build websites never touch any of it. It is the reason I can usually tell you what is wrong with a site rather than guess at it.

Then 2020 happened

BR Web Designers started for a fairly unglamorous reason. COVID hit, money was tight, and I needed to make more of it. I already knew how to build websites, so I started building them for other people.

What began as a way through a hard year turned into the work I would rather be doing than anything else. Every year since, the standard has gone up.

I have built hundreds of websites by now. Most of them were mine — things I made to learn something, test an idea, or find out whether it could be done. Thirty-odd were real projects for real clients, and that is the number I would rather be judged on.

How I work now

Webflow is my main tool. It gives clients a real visual editor instead of a locked template or a dashboard full of plugins waiting to break, and it lets me build faster without cutting corners. But I am not only a Webflow designer. The underlying skills came first and they transfer.

You deal with me directly. There is no account manager between you and the person building your site, which means nothing gets lost in translation and you always know who to ask.
